Where the air is crystal clear
Hiking with the family in the Ötz Valley
With some of Austria’s tallest mountains, the Ötz Valley is one of the leading mountain valleys in the eastern Alps, considering the number of “three-thousanders”. The Ötz Valley has routes of all difficulty levels; from long treks over the high alpine via ferratas to light walks.
Lace up your hiking boots, put on your backpack, and grab the binoculars. Then, you can depart on a hike that will leave explorers of all ages astounded.
Over the alpine pastures
You can start your walk with your family from the centre of Sölden, and can take pleasant walking routes up to the Leiterbergalm. There is a child-friendly route that leads over the mountain pastures that you can take to reach the Edelweißhütte. From there, you can go even further up the mountains. After about 2 hours’ walk, you will arrive in Hochsölden, 2,000 metres above sea level, where you can have a rest at Sonnblick.
You can also walk to Sonnblick from the Giggijochbahn top station or mid-station via the Gampe Thaya. Sonnblick can also be accessed by car in summer.
A hearty snack is always a good idea
A visit to Sonnblick will be the highlight of your family’s hike. Here, the Riml family will make sure you are well fed and watered. Perhaps some bacon bread to refuel? Or a sandwich with alpine cheese? The Tyrolean dishes are made with love and according to a special recipe to give you an authentic culinary experience among the alpine pastures. While you enjoy a coffee, your kids can let loose in the children’s play area.
After that, your little explorers will fall right into bed, pleasantly exhausted. Can you hardly wait to marvel at the magnificent summits up close with your loved ones? Starting at the Riml hotels in the Ötz Valley, you can take some breath-taking hikes to Sonnblick, Hochsölden, or to the many other highlights around Sölden.
